A picture tells more than a thousand numbers

Reading stock charts is a fundamental skill for anyone investing in stocks. Start with the simple and build up gradually.

Line chart
The simplest type. A line shows the closing price for each day, week or month. Perfect for seeing the overall trend over time.
Candlestick
Japanese candlestick chart — the most used among experienced investors. Green = price rose. Red = price fell.

Bull and Bear — two important words

Bull market
Rising market — investors are optimistic. Technical definition: the market has risen 20% or more from the bottom.
Bear market
Falling market — investors are pessimistic. Technical definition: the market has fallen 20% or more from the top.
Tip: Start with Yahoo Finance. Search for the ticker symbol followed by .OL for Oslo Stock Exchange stocks. For example EQNR.OL for Equinor.
